Rules Interpretation Classes
RULES INTERPRETATION CLASSES WILL OCCUR EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY EVENING IN OCTOBER.
All first- and second-year MDBOA officials and transfer officials are required to attend Rules Interpretation Classes.
These eight classes are taught by experienced basketball officials and are designed to teach new and transfer officials the rules, regulations and floor mechanics associated with middle and high school basketball in Miami-Dade County.
All officials who are required to take these classes must register for them here.
Failure to attend will render an official ineligible to receive game assignments. It is unlikely a 1st or 2nd year official will receive varsity game assignments unless they are a transfer.
Classes will take place at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex located at 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL.
You must register for the FHSAA online here. During this process, you will need to pay all fees required by the FHSAA—they total $60 per official f you apply during early registration. After early registration, the fee is $65. If you are age 16-18, the fee is $10/sport. You will also be given an FHSAA ID# and password. Make sure you save this ID# and password, as you will need it to complete your FHSAA Officials Testing.

Unless you are a transfer official who has been given an exemption by the Booking Commissioner, you will also need to take our Rules Interpretation Classes.which are given every Tuesday and Thursday in October. There is no charge for this class unless you have to take the make up class. You will be required to attend all classes.
You must register for these classes online here.
The Jessica Lunsford Act is the informal name given to a 2005 Florida law designed to punish sex offenders and reduce their ability to re-offend. To comply with this act, basketball officials will need to get fingerprinted, do a Level 2 Screening (a type of background check) and complete the M-DCPS Vendor Application. Once you pass your fingerprinting and background check, you will receive a Florida Public Schools Contractor Badge. You will be required to take this badge to all basketball games you officiate in the future.
To complete this step, fill out the top portion of the “Service Provider Input Document” (i.e., your name, sex, birthdate, address, etc.). You can get the form by sending an email to smiles@dadeschools.net and requesting an appointment with the fingerprint department. Within 48 hours, the fingerprint department will respond to your email with the form and an available appointment time. You must bring your completed form to the appointment and leave it with department personnel. You will need to return to this office two weeks after your appointment to pick up your officials badge.
The fingerprint department is located at 3300 NW 27th Avenue, Miami, FL 33142. You can also contact the department by calling (305) 995-7472.
Please note that the Service Provider Input Document form costs $10 and fingerprinting requires a money order for $83.50, payable by Visa/Mastercard or by writing a check to “School Board Miami-Dade Fingerprinting.” For more information about this ruling, refer to Florida Statutes 1012.467 and 1012.468 here.
The FHSAA administers annual officials tests for prospective and current officials in every sport. All basketball officials need to obtain a score of 75 or higher to be eligible to officiate varsity high school basketball in Miami-Dade County.
ArbiterSports is an online scheduling program where you will receive all MDBOA game assignments.
After you have successfully completed the application process and have obtained your Florida Public Schools Contractor Badge, the Booking Commissioner will create your ArbiterSports account. You will be notified by email when you are able to access it.
